Sports
At Utopia our implementation of Sport across the curriculum is flexible and diverse.
The delivery of sport is linked strongly to our Personal Development Curriculum and encompasses a range of challenging activities.
We take an alternative view to sports participation, in that activity is predominantly offsite and may include learning opportunities such as rock climbing, kayaking, BMXing or mountain biking alongside more traditional sports.
This course covers the fundamentals of sports, whereby students learn key concepts about the body and how it responds to exercise, teamwork, healthy lifestyles and leadership skills.
The BTEC Level 1 Introductory course provides a thorough grounding in the principles of sport and supports students in the progression to the BTEC Sport Level 2 qualification. The Level 2 qualification consists of three mandatory units, covering the underpinning knowledge and skills required for the sports sector: fitness for sport and exercise , practical performance in sport and applying the principles of personal training.
Students will build on the knowledge gained in the mandatory units by choosing one further unit, covering areas such as: the mind and sports performance, the sports performer in action or leading a sports activity.
Studying this qualification will help students:
- Achieve a nationally recognised Level 1/2 vocationally-related qualification
- Develop essential life skills such as confidence, teamwork, resilience and leadership
- Progress to related vocational qualifications, apprenticeships or employment within the Sports and Active Leisure industry
