Maths
At Utopia we recognise that key areas in Mathematics such as number, shape and measure, ratio and proportion, algebra, statistics, and probability play a fundamental role in developing core skills needed for success in everyday life.
We therefore ensure that all learners reach their potential through challenging teaching and learning activities at the appropriate level. Learners are encouraged to practise their procedural fluency and conceptual understanding by completing questions that get increasingly more complex throughout the curriculum.
Learners at Utopia are given opportunities to problem solve using a range of mathematical techniques and skills acquired as they progress through the scheme of work. They learn to reason mathematically by developing an argument or drawing a conclusion, following a process of logical steps. Through discussion and group work, students can deepen their understanding and gain confidence in communicating using mathematical language.
Studying this qualification will help students:
- Addressing skills gaps and building confidence
- Preparing them for GCSE qualifications, through sessions that are tailored towards their individual needs
